💻 Weekly Wellness Checks for SVA Students (2026–2027)

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Pennsylvania requires all school districts to conduct weekly wellness checks for students who are enrolled 100% virtually.

🎥 What is a Wellness Check?

A wellness check is a brief face-to-face virtual meeting between a school district representative and the student. During the meeting:

📹 The student and staff member must both have their cameras on.
👋 The staff member must be able to see and communicate directly with the student.
📅 Wellness checks are required once each week during any week in which school is in session for three or more days.

🧑‍🏫 How Will SVA Conduct Wellness Checks?

🎓 Students with an IEP or GIEP will complete their weekly wellness check with their assigned case manager.
👩‍💻 All other full-time SVA students will be assigned an SVA teacher for weekly wellness checks.
📌 Assignments will remain in place throughout the school year whenever possible.
🕒 Meetings may occur during scheduled office hours or another mutually agreed-upon time.

📬 Missed Wellness Checks

If a student misses a scheduled wellness check, the district is required to follow state-mandated procedures, including:

📧 Contacting the family to reschedule the wellness check.
🤝 Additional follow-up if the student cannot be reached.
🏠 Further intervention, including conferences or in-person wellness visits, if required by state regulations.

These procedures help ensure students remain engaged, supported, and connected throughout their virtual learning experience.
