Mrs. Stoy (as the Fat Bear) taught the 6th Grade Peacekeeper Team about bears and how they adapt and prepare for hibernation by catching salmon during the National Park Serviceβs Fat Bear Week this week. Students have also watched live feeds of bears throughout the week in her science class. The students then read and learned about the real fat bear contenders and completed brackets to track which bear will end up being the most successful bear who is the most prepared for their winter slumbers! #WeAreWeiser

Yesterday, the 6th grade Diplomats Team participated in a stream study where they searched and then identified macroinvertebrates found in the Furnace Creek. They also took time to learn to work as a team.

The 6th Grade Peacekeeper Team traveled to our local Furnace Creek watershed today. While there, students conducted a stream study to locate macro-invertebrates with Mr. Feeg, discussed our water health, identified and sorted macro-invertebrates with Mrs. Stoy, learned about trout at the trout nursery and read a story with Ms. Matthew, and completed a watershed nature scavenger hunt with Ms. Fidazzo and Mr. Young. Additional thanks to our community resource volunteers to help make this a memorable hands-on experience for our students. #WeAreWeiser
