On Tuesday, March 25th, a select group of 3rd and 4th graders participated in the county-wide K'Nex STEM Design Challenge at the Berks County Intermediate Unit. In this challenge, elementary students focused on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (UN Sustainable Development Goal 9) by designing a prototype that addressed a real-world problem related to infrastructure, transportation, or urban development. These two teams have been preparing since December to create their prototype. They had two hours to reconstruct their design by using blueprints they created. Afterwards, they had two minutes to present their idea to a panel of judges. It was a great experience for all! 👩‍🌾🥕🍅🫛🫑Starting this spring and over summer, CW West will have our very own Garden Club run by Miss Z., our physical education teacher, with help from some other guest teachers! This opportunity is available to current 1st through 4th grade students only. Students will plan out, plant, weed, water and harvest our very own garden located the CW West property as well as grow food using our hydroponic garden! The crops we grow will be shared in a fridge (Freedge) located at the B-Wing entrance for West’s families and community members to take and enjoy as we harvest them! The dates and times of the garden club meetings are to be determined as of now; however, I want to collect the names of interested students and families as well as some general info! Dr. Danielle teaches kids about how our brain works, and then equips kids with practical skills to work through these struggles, using activities with horses and other farm animals, games, and crafts! The non-judgmental and playful farm environment helps kids learn without pressure or shame, and gives them the chance to practice new skills with each other and the animals. Sign up for one or all workshops - each one is unique! 🙋🏻‍♀️Sensory 101 is the Parent Education Workshop that goes alongside NeuroHarmony, equipping parents with tools and practical skills to help their children at home. Knowledge is empowering! Occupational therapist Ashton Smith facilitates learning through activities and Q&A to support parents personally in learning how to help their children overcome these struggles through sensory regulation, something that is often overlooked but extremely beneficial - for parents too!
