Conrad Weiser High School is pleased to announce that two alumni will be inducted into the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium in Robesonia.
Being inducted that evening are Harry K. “Jack” Fry (class of 1970) and Dr. M. Peter Hoffman (class of 1959).
Harry K. (Jack) Fry is the President/Owner of RE/MAX of Reading, a real estate firm located in Wyomissing, PA.
Mr. Fry began selling real estate after graduating from college and opened RE/MAX of Reading in 1980. RE/MAX presently has 160 realtors, 16 staff, and a leadership team of 8. Mr. Fry and his company have received numerous international and regional awards, including Realtor of the Year, Distinguished Service Award, and Eagle Award. RE/MAX is continuously ranked in the RealTrends Top 500 of national real estate companies. For 10 years running, RE/MAX of Reading has been recognized as the most productive single RE/MAX office in the United States.
Mr. Fry has served as an officer and a member of the board of directors of the Bright MLS, the largest multi-list service in the country with over 105,000 members. Mr. Fry also served as Chairman of Trend MLS for three years and was on their board of directors for 12 years, including four years on the executive committee. Additionally, he served as President of Reading/Berks Association of Realtors, along with serving on numerous association committees.
Mr. Fry has served as a council member for Trinity Lutheran Church in Robesonia, a 12-year member of the Borough Council of Wernersville, and a girls’ coach for the Conrad Weiser Youth Soccer Club for six years and the Berks County Premier Soccer team for four years. Harry (Jack) Fry is a 1970 graduate of Conrad Weiser High School and a 1973 graduate of Elizabethtown College.
Dr. Peter Hoffman was raised in Stouchsburg and is a 1959 graduate of Conrad Weiser High School, who was honored to give the commencement address at Conrad Weiser High School in 1991.
Dr. Hoffman graduated from Delaware Valley College in 1963 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was valedictorian, president of his class, played varsity baseball, and was a member of the livestock judging team. He currently serves on the Delaware Valley University Alumni Board of Directors.
Dr. Hoffman received his M.S. Degree in Livestock Production in 1967 and a Ph.D. in Breeding and Genetics in 1969 from Iowa State University.
Dr. Hoffman is now a Professor Emeritus in the College of Agriculture and Life Science at Iowa State University following a 50-year research and teaching career specializing in animal breeding and genetics, physiology, nutrition, and muscle and meat science. He has published numerous articles based on his and graduate students’ studies of animal genetics, feeding and housing systems, types of feed stuffs, and other factors that influence livestock production.
Dr. Hoffman and his wife own and operate an elite Berkshire breeding herd at Phenotypic Acres comprised of 10 Hoffman–developed genetic lines which are known to produce the highest meat-eating quality pork in the country. Dr. Hoffman ably served on the Executive Board of the American Berkshire Association for 14 years, two of those as president. Dr. Hoffman was an early proponent for the inclusion of Berkshires in national boar tests, and later he co-developed the National Progeny Test for evaluating meat and production qualities for Berkshire swine.
Dr. Hoffman has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Alumnus of Delaware Valley College, the American Society of Animal Science Management Award, the American Berkshire Association Distinguished Service Award, and the Iowa Berkshire Association Lifetime Achievement Award.
“The Distinguished Alumni Program seeks to recognize CW graduates who have proven – through their lifetime achievements – to be a source of pride for the Conrad Weiser community, as well as a source of inspiration to its students.” In addition, nominees have distinguished themselves in a field or profession and earned recognition at a regional, national, or international level.
The induction will be part of the National Honor Society Induction held that evening. Following the induction, a reception will take place in the high school cafeteria. Family, friends, and community members are welcome to come and join in honoring the inductees.
